With less than 60 days to go, excitement is building ahead of the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which will be jointly hosted for the first time by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. In a major development to facilitate smooth cross-border movement, the three East African nations have announced plans to introduce a special PAMOJA VISA. This initiative is designed to ease travel for players, officials, and fans attending CHAN 2025, underscoring the region’s commitment to delivering a seamless and world-class tournament.
The announcement was made during a joint press briefing held in Nairobi on June 3, 2025. Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, Hon. Salim Mvurya, reaffirmed the unity and shared vision of the three host nations, collectively dubbed the PAMOJA team. He noted that preparations are in the final stages, with ongoing collaboration among the countries to address logistical and operational issues, as well as to align with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) requirements.

The PAMOJA VISA will serve as a temporary travel document allowing easy access across the three countries during the tournament period. Specific details regarding the visa application process and eligibility will be released soon, with coordination led by the Ministries of Immigration in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. In addition to the visa rollout, the countries have agreed on tax exemptions and rebates for importing critical tournament equipment, aiming to streamline logistics and reduce hosting costs.
Security is also a key focus, with all members of the Local Organizing Committees having completed CAF-led security training sessions. The joint hosts have emphasized safety and infrastructure readiness, revealing that stadium and transport upgrades in all three countries will be completed by the end of June 2025. These improvements are essential for ensuring a smooth experience for both local and international attendees, while showcasing East Africa’s capacity to host major global sporting events.
Tanzania’s Minister for Sports, Prof. Palamagamba Kabudi, and Uganda’s Minister of State for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, both praised the regional collaboration and extended a warm invitation to fans from across the continent. The PAMOJA initiative not only marks a new era of East African sports diplomacy but also sets the stage for a memorable and unified CHAN 2025 tournament that celebrates African football and regional integration.
