With the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) officially replacing NHIF effective October 1, 2024, employers across Kenya must act swiftly to ensure a smooth and compliant transition. Under the Social Health Act 2023, all employers are required to register their employees through the new SHA Employer Portal before the September 30, 2024 deadline. Failure to comply may result in penalties and disrupted healthcare coverage for workers.
Step 1: Visit the official SHA website at https://sha.go.ke. On the homepage, find the “Employer Registration” link and click it. Then, fill in your company’s details, including your business name, registration number, KRA PIN, and contact information.
Step 2: After submitting your details, you will receive a verification link via email or SMS. Click the link to confirm your account. This verification step activates your employer dashboard and gives you full access to SHIF functions.
Step 3: Once verified, register your employees by entering their full names, ID numbers, job titles, gross salaries, and any dependents. The portal supports both individual entries and bulk uploads to make the process easier.
Step 4: After registering your employees, remit SHIF contributions monthly. Contributions are calculated as 2.75% of each employee’s gross salary. The SHA portal allows you to generate payroll reports, upload payment proofs, track payments, and monitor your compliance status. Timely payments are important to avoid penalties and ensure uninterrupted healthcare coverage.
The SHA Employer Portal is not just for registration. It also allows you to update employee information, view contribution history, and download compliance certificates. Using the portal helps your business stay aligned with Kenya’s new healthcare framework and simplifies the management of SHIF contributions.
Make sure to complete these steps before the September 30, 2024 deadline to protect your employees and stay compliant with the law.
Don’t wait until the last minute. Early registration gives you time to resolve any technical issues, understand your obligations, and ensure your employees get uninterrupted access to healthcare. Take action now to secure your team’s wellbeing and protect your organization from costly compliance risks.
